What We Do

Friends of the Brazos River is providing public education through a benchmark study that it funded and published on the water needed in the Brazos for a healthy and sustainable river system. This in stream flow analysis for the Lake Granbury-Whitney stretch is available on the Friends’ website.

Annual River Clean-up
FBR, along with several local businesses, sponsors its annual clean-up each Spring weather permitting. Since 2002, we have removed and recycled thousands of tires and untold tons of trash.

GOALS

  • To understand and protect the ecological, historical, cultural, recreational and economic values of the Brazos River.
  • To determine, through scientific study, what releases from existing reservoirs and what other instream flows are adequate in the river system to maintain a healthy riparian ecosystem in the Brazos.
  • To measure and communicate to the Brazos River Authority (BRA) and all others who derive benefits from this resource the positive rewards of restoring and maintaining a clean, flowing river.

ACTION POINTS

  • Friends of the Brazos River is currently participating in the decision of the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) on an application filed by the Brazos River Authority to expand its water rights.
  • Friends of the Brazos River is expanding its membership and capabilities through the recruitment of like-minded citizens, riverfront landowners and businesses, anglers, boaters and recreational users who are committed to a balanced allocation of water in the Brazos river for recreational uses, fish and wildlife and aesthetic values.
